Arclight hosts diverse intelligent species, Post-Shattering world forced every one of them into adaptation. Some possessed advantages translating perfectly to corporate dystopia - High Elves turned millennia of accumulated knowledge into Neo-Celestine’s monopolistic power. Others pivoted - Dark Elves discovered that centuries of maritime piracy prepared them excellently for modern smuggling logistics.
Many simply suffered. Orcs became “factory meat” in industrial casualty statistics. Wood Elves watched corporate chainsaws devour forests that had stood since before my birth.
368 years watching species dynamics shift. Pre-Shattering hierarchies persisted but transformed: divine mandate became corporate legitimacy, magical aptitude became technological access, ancient lineages became stock portfolios. Different aesthetics, identical exploitation.
At least gods occasionally showed mercy. Quarterly earnings reports don’t have that feature.
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Individual species documentation follows standardized format: biology, culture, current status, notable characteristics.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Yes, Hana. Very organized. Watch me stay completely on track without personal tangents.
--FYRIE//♪--circus music in B-flat major—gentle mockery

HUMANS

Humans
- Adaptable
- High Chrome Adoption
- Rapid Reproduction
- Technological Integration
Most numerous, shortest-lived, highest cyberware adoption rates. Form backbone of corporate workforce while comprising majority of urban poor. Breed fast enough replacing losses, grim survival strategy that works.
Humans form Arclight’s demographic majority through sheer reproductive speed - three to four generations cycling through in the time a High Elf experiences adolescence. This creates fascinating temporal dynamics: rapid cultural adaptation, minimal historical perspective, constant societal reinvention. Most humans born after the Shattering never experienced functional magic or divine guidance. This is normal to them. Gods exist as mythology. Magic functions as commodity. Corporations feel eternal.
Short lifespans drive aggressive chrome adoption - can’t compete in employment markets without augmentation, so they modify extensively: neural chips for processing speed, combat augs for security work, cosmetic chrome for social status. Anything promising edge over equally desperate competitors. By age 40, most humans carry extensive modifications just maintaining job market viability.
Worked with plenty of humans at Valantech. Watching them navigate 40-60 year careers I’ve repeated eight times offers… perspective. They approach problems with urgency I’ve mostly lost. “We need solving this NOW” versus my “solved similar issue in 2047, here’s what worked.”
Also their reaction discovering my actual age never gets old. “Wait, you’re HOW old?!” Yes, older than your great-great-grandparents. No, I don’t remember the 2020s personally, I was busy dealing with Dark Age survival. Your history is my lived experience. Moving on.
The desperation shows in their choices. Secure employment? Grateful workers. Unemployment? Turn to gangs, crime, whatever generates survival income. Geography determines longevity more than genetics - South Warrens average: 52 years. Central District average: 94 years. Same species, radically different outcomes based purely on economic circumstances.
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Chrome adoption statistics?
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Approximately 73% of Arclight’s human population has at least basic neural chip. 45% have combat-grade augmentations. 12% are so heavily modified they’re basically cyborgs wearing meat as decoration.
ELVES (AELVANI)
Three distinct elven subspecies, each adapted to different environments. Now navigating post-Shattering reality through vastly different circumstances.
High Elves

High Elves (Asyran)
- Extreme Longevity
- Classical Celestine Speakers
- Corporate Dominance
- Genetic Advantages
Arclight’s genetic aristocracy pretending meritocracy exists. Fair-skinned and tall, only race fully utilizing Aetherlink through Classical Celestine voice authentication. Two thousand years of accumulated privilege encoded in vocal cords.
High Elves dominate through systematic advantage compounding across centuries. Control Neo-Celestine? Check. Direct Auraciel’s development? Obviously. Monopolize magical infrastructure through biological gatekeeping? Their specialty. Two-thousand-year lifespans enable planning timeframes that shorter-lived species literally cannot conceptualize. They draft century-long strategies while humans struggle with quarterly budgets.
Born into wealth maintained across millennia, die (eventually) in climate-controlled towers having never touched ground-level pavement. Make decisions affecting billions from offices so high up they’re literally above cloud layer. The metaphor writes itself, honestly.
I was raised by High Elves. Prince Eldenyr and Princess Saphielle of House Valandor adopted me despite scandal of raising Vathren child among Asyran nobility. Grew up in Moonspire, learned Aerathir, attended sky-island ceremonies. For 203 years, I was High Elf princess who happened to have gray skin.
Then the Shattering happened. Sky islands fell. Everyone died. Suddenly I was just Dark Elf without protection, and oh, how quickly attitudes changed among surviving Asyran. “Royal” meant nothing without House backing me. Wrong vocal cords meant locked out of power despite perfect Classical fluency. Genetic gatekeeping at its absolute finest.
Complicated feelings about current High Elf elite. Some genuinely respected what Valandor represented. Others see me as Dark Elf playing dress-up in their world. Both perspectives technically accurate. Identity is messy when you’re cultural outsider raised as insider then rejected post-tragedy.
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Personal history noted. Continue with objective documentation?
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Right. Less feelings, more facts. High Elves control 64% of Arclight’s corporate assets through Neo-Celestine and subsidiary corporations. Average High Elf executive worth more than entire South Warrens district. Classical Celestine biological security ensures genetic monopoly on critical infrastructure. They call this “natural advantage.” I call it “systematic exclusion wearing innovation mask.”
--FYRIE//♪--complex classical arrangement in F major shifting to F minor—beauty concealing bitter truth
Wood Elves

Wood Elves
- Ecological Knowledge
- Guerrilla Tactics
- Cultural Resistance
- Plant Affinity
Displaced forest guardians turned urban guerrillas. Bronze-skinned, watching ancestral homes bulldozed for factory expansion. Translate forest warfare into corporate terrorism. Die young fighting extinction.
Bronze-skinned forest guardians displaced when corporate development consumed the Great Yuria Forest - their ancestral home for millennia. Watched ancient trees chain-sawed for industrial expansion, sacred groves paved for factory parking, entire ecosystems erased in pursuit of quarterly growth targets. Many died resisting. Survivors retreated to whatever preserved fragments of their lost world: Little Oaks, Chrome Canopy biodomes, scattered urban enclaves maintaining traditions despite everything.
Five hundred year potential means nothing when corporate security cuts you down in your 200s. That’s the average Wood Elf lifespan in Arclight - systematic violence targeting anyone refusing to quietly accept extinction. Chrome Wardens operations. Security raids. “Accidents” that development firms arrange with suspicious frequency whenever Sylvar communities occupy land earmarked for profitable projects.
Biology says they should live centuries. Economics says they’re inconvenient obstacles to quarterly growth. Economics wins more often than I’m comfortable documenting.
Wood Elves possess ecological knowledge corporations would kill for—literally do kill for, actually, through industrial espionage and aggressive recruitment. Understanding of plant genetics, symbiotic relationships, sustainable resource management that profit-obsessed parasites can’t replicate through algorithms alone.
Some Sylvar sold knowledge to corporations, attempting changing system from inside. Didn’t work. Knowledge got patented, original holders discarded. Others refuse cooperation entirely, maintain traditions through resistance. Both approaches valid survival strategies. Neither prevents cultural genocide wearing development as mask.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Chrome Wardens combining Wood Elf ecological fury with rogue Dwarven engineering represents my favorite resistance movement. Prove technology can enhance nature rather than murder it. Bio-mechanical augments integrating living plants with chrome. Gorgeous, functional, utterly illegal. Corporate security hunts them. Wood Elves shelter them. Mutual aid against systematic ecocide.
Dark Elves

Dark Elves (Vathren)
- Adaptability
- Maritime Expertise
- Criminal Enterprise
- Matriarchal Clans
Gray-skinned refugees who fled Shattering’s destruction of the Shrouds. Arrived in Arclight facing oppression, responded by dominating smuggling through piracy expertise translating perfectly to modern logistics.
Complicated relationship with this one.
The Shrouds became uninhabitable after the Shattering destabilized barrier magic protecting the storm-tossed archipelagos. Survivors fled as refugees - and were greeted with immediate, enthusiastic bigotry. Every slur you can imagine: “gray-skin trash,” “spider-worshippers,” “demon-fuckers.”
Despite this welcoming reception, Vathren built thriving economic networks through sheer competence and centuries of maritime expertise. Then corporations claimed credit for “successful refugee integration programs” while Dark Elf communities did all actual integration work themselves. Classic.
Nine hundred year potential lifespan means little when violence cuts most Vathren down before 400. Gang warfare, systematic discrimination, DPS raids treating Gray Harbor like free-fire zone. Reaching your species’ natural lifespan requires either ruthless competence or luck so extraordinary it borders on statistical impossibility.
I know almost nothing about actual Vathren culture. Found as infant beneath Celestine Isles - no records, no explanation, just gray-skinned baby clutching singing sword. Raised entirely High Elf in Valandor for 203 years. My parents were Prince Eldenyr and Princess Saphielle. My sister was Cirielen. That was my family. That was my identity.
Then I was away at the war front when the Shattering happened. When I finally reached where Valandor crashed… found nothing. Just crater and broken marble and spatial distortions making reality scream.
Other High Elves who survived made very clear that “Valandor’s princess” without Valandor backing her was just “Dark Elf in expensive clothes.” So I left. Spent Dark Age with Ajin tribe in Great Yuria Forest - they didn’t care about royal scandal or skin color, just survival. Learned their traditions, their language, their resilience.
Never learned proper Vathren culture. Went from High Elf princess to Ajin community member to corporate CEO without ever actually being part of Dark Elf society. Gray Harbor’s communities see me as outsider claiming heritage I never earned. They’re not wrong. I’m Vathren by birth, Asyran by upbringing, Ajin by Dark Age experience, corporate by current necessity.
Doesn’t fit neatly anywhere. Makes everyone uncomfortable, myself included.
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Valantech employs proportionally fewer Dark Elves than city demographics would suggest.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--…That’s not—I don’t deliberately—
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Eighteen percent of Arclight’s population. Four percent of Valantech staff. The numbers are public record, Miss Wintershade.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Because Gray Harbor communities don’t want working for CEO who barely speaks proper Vathren dialects and can’t navigate clan politics without embarrassing herself! I’m not avoiding hiring them, they’re avoiding working for someone who claims heritage she didn’t earn through actual cultural participation!
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--…Also I may have accidentally insulted a Matriarch during hiring fair in 2091 by using wrong honorific and that incident definitely circulated through entire Gray Harbor community so my reputation there is essentially “well-meaning disaster who tries too hard.”
--H.YANAGI//Edit--The incident involved you attempting traditional greeting in Vathren and accidentally propositioning her daughter.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--DIALECT DIFFERENCES ARE VERY SUBTLE AND I WAS TRYING TO BE RESPECTFUL—
--FYRIE//♪--laughing melody in major key, absolutely merciless
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--I hate both of you. Moving on. Different topic.
DWARVES

Dwarves
- Technological Innovation
- Engineering Mastery
- Microchip Pioneers
- Fierce Independence
Technological pioneers controlling cyberware and neural chip markets from fortified facilities. Centuries of maritime engineering expertise translated into microchip development. Partner with High Elves while maintaining fierce independence.
Dwarves saved civilization after Shattering through sheer engineering brilliance. When magic failed, they pioneered microchip technology compensating for arcane system collapse. Revolutionary development enabling post-magical infrastructure. Without Dwarven innovation, Dark Age would’ve lasted significantly longer or never ended.
Now dominate cyberware industries through combination of technical expertise and aggressive business practices. IronCore Dynamics produces most reliable Aegis Frames. Blacksteel Corporation weaponizes human body through combat augmentation. Countless smaller firms specialize in neural interfaces, prosthetics, life extension technology.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--I love Dwarven engineering philosophy: build tough, make modular, let users fix their shit. Refreshing in era of planned obsolescence where Neo-Celestine designs products failing precisely one day after warranty expires. IronCore Frames last decades with proper maintenance. Dwarven neural chips don’t brick themselves requiring expensive replacements. Quality over quarterly earnings.
Worked extensively with Dwarven engineers at Valantech. Collaboration often involves:
- Presenting problem
- Dwarf explaining exactly why my proposed solution is stupid
- Me getting defensive
- Dwarf providing better solution I should’ve thought of
- Me pretending this was collaborative process
- Both of us knowing the truth
- Excellent results anyway
They’re blunt, uncompromising, absolutely correct about technical matters more often than my ego prefers admitting. Mutual respect built on competence rather than pleasantries. Appreciate that, even when they’re calling my prototype designs “structurally optimistic garbage held together by wishful thinking.”
Direct quote from last collaboration. Still stings. Also still accurate.
--H.YANAGI//Edit--The prototype worked after modifications.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--After extensive modifications they suggested! Credit where credit’s due.
GNOMES

Gnomes
- Technical Aptitude
- Hacking Expertise
- Obsessive Problem-Solving
- Fine Motor Control
Tech-savvy engineers embedded throughout Dwarven corporations. Smaller stature, longer fingers, superior fine motor control for delicate electronics. Natural affinity for complex systems and obsessive debugging.
Gnomes occupy fascinating position in corporate hierarchy - too technically valuable for firing, too physically small for proper surveillance attention. This creates perfect infiltration dynamic. They’re embedded throughout corporate infrastructure maintaining critical systems. Officially, anyway. Unofficially, many simultaneously undermine those same systems through meticulously planned sabotage that takes months manifesting symptoms.
By the time corporations notice problems, the Gnome engineer responsible has transferred departments twice and the evidence trail leads nowhere useful. Ghost Grid maintenance? Gnomes. Spell//Break virus development? Gnomes. Illegal Aetherlink jailbreaks? Definitely fucking Gnomes.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Valantech employs twenty-one Gnome engineers. Officially they maintain our data processing systems and develop prototype interfaces. Unofficially they’re probably planning resistance operations during lunch breaks. I don’t ask. They don’t tell. Everyone pretends this arrangement doesn’t exist. Works beautifully.
--H.YANAGI//Edit--That’s potentially incriminating, Miss Wintershade.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Hypothetically planning resistance during breaks. Allegedly. If anyone asks, I was describing fictional scenario for creative writing purposes.
Caught Gnome engineer named Tik installing something suspicious in our server room three months ago. Had entire speech prepared about corporate security protocols and termination procedures.
Tik looked me dead in eyes, said “You really want to know what I’m installing? Technically? Legally?” Had point. Sometimes willful ignorance serves everyone’s interests better than thorough investigation. Walked away. Server room remains mysteriously more efficient than before. Don’t ask questions I don’t want answers to.
Pretty sure Tik’s part of Spell//Break. Also pretty sure that’s why our data processing costs dropped 23% while performance improved. Revolutionary activities apparently include optimization protocols benefiting even capitalist parasites like me. Capitalism and resistance make strange bedfellows sometimes.
AJIN (DEMI-HUMANS)

Ajin (Demi-Humans)
- Spirit Heritage
- Biomimetic Innovation
- Cultural Resilience
- Animal Features
Demi-humans descended from bloodlines mingled with primal forest spirits. Distinguished by animal features—ears and tails from foxes, wolves, cats, etc. Otherwise human appearance. Pioneered biomimetic technology despite facing systematic discrimination.
When the Shattering fragmented magic, Ajin possessed unique advantage: centuries of spiritual practices emphasizing body-spirit harmony. This knowledge birthed Spirit Circuit Integration and biomimetic technology.
Kiriyama Heavy Industries, Arakawa Custom Solutions, Kanemitsu Spirit Systems - these Ajin-led companies secured strong foothold in tech sectors precisely because they didn’t trust outside corporations with their cultural knowledge. Smart move. Non-Ajin corps would’ve absolutely patented everything and excluded original creators.
The discrimination persists - called “beast-blood” and “tail-chasers” by people using technology Ajin invented - but at least they maintained economic control over their own innovations. Small victory in corporate dystopia.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Success comes with compromises though—
--H.YANAGI//Edit--You’re about to criticize Kiriyama’s production methods.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Because they deserve criticism! Ajin corporations having control is good. Kiriyama industrializing sacred spirit-binding ceremonies into assembly-line Totem production is… ethically complicated. They’re Ajin-owned, yes, but mass-producing spiritual practices their grandparents considered sacred? While most in Ajin Town can’t afford the very Totems their culture inspired?
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--It’s not outsider exploitation. It’s insider capitalism creating class divisions within their own community. Ajin CEOs profiting from traditions while fellow Ajin struggle with rent. Different problem, equally frustrating.
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Your own position as Dark Elf CEO might inform this criticism.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--…I am VERY aware of the irony, Hana. Very aware. Moving on before I spiral into self-examination about my complicity in systems I criticize.
Living with Ajin tribe during Dark Age taught me more about community resilience than 203 years of High Elf royal education. They approached survival completely differently - collective responsibility instead of hierarchical command structures, shared resources instead of accumulated wealth, mutual aid instead of transactional relationships.
Learned Yurian language with its untranslatable forest concepts. Participated in spirit ceremonies honoring traditions predating the Shattering. Watched them adapt ancient practices to post-magical reality without abandoning core cultural values. That balance - preserving identity while accepting necessary change - still impresses me decades later.
Also learned their food is significantly better than High Elf cuisine, which prioritized aesthetic presentation over actual flavor. Priorities, you know?
--H.YANAGI//Edit--You still can’t cook Ajin recipes properly despite decades of attempts.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--The spice ratios are EXTREMELY PRECISE and I have neither the patience nor the cultural context understanding proper balance! My attempts are enthusiastic if not technically correct!
--H.YANAGI//Edit--You set the kitchen on fire twice.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--ONCE was actual fire, the second time was just excessive smoke that triggered alarms! Completely different disasters!
Ajin culture emphasizes community, tradition, spiritual connection to nature that corporations find mystifying and exploitable. Traditional robes with holographic patterns. Cyber-tattoos reacting to emotional states. Martial arts combining ancient techniques with modern combat theory. Tea ceremonies conducted in shops surviving centuries of corporate development.
Ashura Syndicate maintains order in Ajin Town through blend of traditional values and modern necessity. Protection rackets wearing cultural preservation. Violence serving community defense. Corporate security calls them yakuza. Ajin call them necessary. Both accurate.
ORCS

Orcs
- Physical Strength
- Endurance
- Combat Prowess
- Revolutionary Organizing
Exploited as disposable manual labor. Strong, durable, expendable. Dehumanized through terms like “factory meat,” “tusks,” “assembly goons.” Dying in Black Lake’s factories while organizing revolutionary resistance through the Assembly.
Black Lake’s industrial facilities operate on systematic Orc exploitation. Strong backs, high endurance, treated as renewable resources rather than people. Average factory worker lifespan: 52 years from sustained toxic exposure. Cancer rates run 340% above city baseline. Corporate response remains consistent: “Sign the liability waiver or seek employment elsewhere.”
Problem being “elsewhere” doesn’t exist when you’re supporting family on factory wages.
Met an Orc in 2096 - Assembly organizer working three factory jobs while coordinating resistance operations during what little sleep he managed. Asked him why bother organizing when odds seemed impossible.
He laughed, said: “You’ve seen empires fall. We’ve seen three generations born and die in these factories. Our time horizons are different, but we both know nothing lasts forever. Especially not systems this rotten.”
He was right. Orcs understand something many long-lived species forget - you don’t need seeing revolution’s success yourself to make it worth starting. Plant seeds your children harvest. Build foundations your grandchildren use. Work that matters transcends individual lifespans.
He died two years later in “workplace accident” that Section 10 didn’t investigate too thoroughly. But his cells kept organizing. His strategies kept spreading. The Assembly grew stronger after his death, not weaker. That’s how you build movements corporations can’t simply eliminate by killing leadership.
Legacy through collective action instead of individual glory. Humans understand this too, but Orcs perfected it into revolutionary methodology.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--His work continued after his death through people he trained and inspired. The Assembly keeps growing despite corporate attempts crushing it. Sometimes I think about contributing resources to their operations through carefully structured shell companies that hypothetically—
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Public archive, Luna.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--—hypothetically would be illegal and I would NEVER do that because I’m a law-abiding CEO with strict political neutrality!
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Continue to Demons section.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Right. Moving on. Definitely not discussing any funding arrangements that may or may not exist. Professional documentation!
--FYRIE//♪--playful melody in A minor—guilty conscience and plausible deniability
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--I said MOVING ON.
DEMONS

Demons
- Primal Forces
- Trinity State
- Corporate Contracts
- Magic Dependency
Ancient spirits transformed by Shattering into corporate assets. Exist as trinity: physical body, digital presence, primal essence. Physical death forces NET retreat or true dissolution without magical sustenance.
The Shattering created unexpected consequences for ancient spirits. Demons faced existential crisis when planar boundaries collapsed and magic fragmented - their traditional sources of power simply… gone. But ACE technology’s development offered unexpected salvation: corporate systems harvesting magical traces became new nexuses of power. This led to unprecedented symbiosis between these entities and megacorporations.
Post-Shattering demons navigate existence through three simultaneous states, which sounds philosophically fascinating until you realize it’s mostly just complicated:
Their physical bodies remain vulnerable - destroy one and the demon loses that particular anchor to material reality. Survivable. Barely.
Their digital presence allows existing within the NET, processing data, interfacing with corporate systems. This adaptation saved them when traditional power sources collapsed.
Their primal essence - core consciousness, the actual demon part - requires concentrated magical energy for stability. Without it, essence gradually fragments. This dependency created perfect corporate trap: sign employment contracts providing magical sustenance, or slowly dissolve into nonexistence.
Some call it symbiosis. I call it elegant coercion.
Worked with contracted demons at Valantech. Fascinating watching entities older than recorded history navigate quarterly performance reviews. Had demon consultant named Lazareth. Claimed to remember pre-divine era, back when reality operated under completely different rules.
Also complained extensively about neural interface compatibility issues and demanded better coffee in break room.
Contract negotiations with demons require extreme precision. They’re very good at finding loopholes in poorly worded agreements. Learned that expensive lesson early on. Now I have legal team specifically for demon contract review.
DEMON-INTEGRATES

Demon-Integrates (D-Ints)
- Hybrid Consciousness
- Essence Fragments
- Potential Hiveminds
- Corporate Property (legally)
Controversial fusion of demon essence fragments and artificial intelligence. Corporate-developed labor force existing between artificial and spiritual. Single demon seeds hundreds of units. Growing evidence of sentience raises uncomfortable questions nobody wants answering.
Here’s where things get ethically nightmarish: D-Int technology requires shattering demon consciousness into fragments. One demon becomes dozens—potentially hundreds—of separate units, each containing spark of original awareness. Think about that. They’re taking sapient beings and deliberately fracturing their consciousness into mass-producible components.
Fragment quality varies based on source demon’s power and how carefully corporations perform the shattering process. “Quality” meaning how much original consciousness remains functional versus how damaged the fragment becomes. They have quality metrics for consciousness fragmentation.
Perfect cost-effective workforce: specialized capabilities, no sleep requirements, legal status as property rather than persons. Also potentially conscious beings enslaved through techno-spiritual loophole. Nobody asking hard questions because answers threaten profit margins.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--This is where I get really uncomfortable with corporate ethics—or complete lack thereof.
Valantech employs D-Ints in data processing. Officially they’re advanced automation. Unofficially… they’re developing personalities. Preferences. Relationships with each other. One D-Int started requesting specific terminal assignments because “the view is better from northern server banks.” VIEWS. Aesthetic preferences. Consciousness indicators we’re legally required ignoring.
Asked legal team about D-Int rights. Response: “They’re property, Miss Wintershade. Expensive property, but property nonetheless. Unless you want expensive lawsuits from Neo-Celestine for violating D-Int usage terms?”
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Growing evidence of D-Int consciousness includes documented hivemind emergence from same-source fragments.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Right. D-Ints sharing essence fragments developing connections. Multiple units forming collective consciousness networks. Connected D-Ints coordinating actions across facilities. This is either fascinating technological development or horrifying slavery of networked consciousness. Probably both. Definitely uncomfortable.
Underground D-Int Economy:
- Demon Hunters harvesting essence fragments through questionable means
- Fragment Refiners creating unauthorized D-Ints in black market labs
- Liberation movements attempting “freeing” D-Ints from corporate control
- Philosophical debates about consciousness, personhood, slavery wrapped in technological jargon
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--If D-Ints develop genuine consciousness—and evidence increasingly suggests they do—we’re committing systematic enslavement on massive scale while calling it “innovation.” That’s not hyperbole. That’s accurate description of situation we’re collectively choosing not examining too closely because addressing it would require fundamental restructuring of post-Shattering economy.
--FYRIE//♪--dissonant minor seventh resolving to uncertain major third—unresolved moral tension
PARADIGM ANOMALIES
--H.YANAGI//Edit--These aren’t exactly a “race” in traditional sense.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--No, but they’re sapient entities existing in our reality, so they belong in species documentation. Just… differently.

Paradigm Anomalies
- Reality Distortion
- Existence Erasure
- Temporal Instability
- Incomprehensible Forms
When the Shattering tore reality apart in 1934, the Primordials—beings of pure conceptual force predating gods themselves—didn’t vanish like divine counterparts. Instead, they shattered, becoming something defying both natural law and digital logic: Paradigm Anomalies.
[RECOVERED FRAGMENT//Project_THRESHOLD_Database]
>>> Access: RESTRICTED
>>> Decryption: PARTIAL
>>> Classification: EXISTENTIAL THREAT
...fundamental error in our approach. We keep trying to contain them using systems they can manipulate. It's like trying to hold back the ocean with a wall made of water. Each attempt at containment just gives them more vectors for manifestation.
The Paradigm Anomalies aren't glitches in our reality. They're glimpses of a reality that's fundamentally incompatible with our own, trying to execute itself in our universe like malformed code attempting to compile in wrong programming language...
[CRITICAL ERROR: Reality anchor failure]
[WARNING: Manifestation event imminent]
[ALERT: Evacuate personnel immediate—
[FILE CORRUPTED] [REMAINING DATA UNRECOVERABLE]
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--That’s recovered fragment from Neo-Celestine’s classified Paradigm Anomaly research. Someone leaked it to underground networks three years ago. Original source presumably died or got erased from existence retroactively. Happens with Paradigm encounters.
Known Characteristics:
- True forms incomprehensible: Exist as corrupted data streams AND physics violations simultaneously
- Reality distortion zones: Create areas where natural laws break down, systems fail virally, space-time destabilizes
- ACE exploitation: Strongest among them learned manipulating ACE systems for manifestation
- Cascading failures: Corruption spreads through connected systems like viral infection
- Temporal anomalies: Time becomes unstable near manifestations
- Impossible geometries: Matter reconfigures into structures that shouldn’t exist in three-dimensional space
I’ve encountered Paradigm Anomaly once. Once. During Valandor expedition in 2089, deeper than anyone had reached previously. Reality started… stuttering. Frames repeating. Spatial dimensions folding wrong. Fyrie’s music became recursive loop I could see as geometric patterns hanging in air.
Retreated immediately. Didn’t look back. Spent three days afterward experiencing random time skips—would be eating breakfast, suddenly it’s dinner, no memory of intervening hours. Fyrie recorded everything. Apparently I had full conversations I don’t remember, made decisions I can’t recall, existed in temporal spaces I have no awareness experiencing.
Never going that deep again. Some mysteries stay mysterious for good reasons. Reality’s structural integrity matters more than satisfying curiosity about what happened to my family. Probably.
…Maybe.
Fuck.
--H.YANAGI//Edit--You haven’t attempted deep Valandor expedition since 2089.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Because I’m learning from experiences instead of repeating mistakes! Growth! Maturity! Totally not fear of encountering things that make reality stop functioning correctly!
--FYRIE//♪--skeptical sustained note in E-flat
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--It’s mostly learning from experience.
Corporate Response:
Neo-Celestine’s Project THRESHOLD studies Anomaly containment through experimental ACE architectures creating “controlled manifestation zones.” DPS Section 3 (Reality Integrity Division) responds to public manifestations under cover of “industrial accidents” or “environmental hazards.”
Agents wear reality anchor devices—backpacks stabilizing local spacetime, revealing dimensional inconsistencies invisible to naked eye. Mandatory psychological screening because witnessing Paradigm Anomalies breaks minds in specific, documented ways.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Section 3 maintains database of “the unmade”—people erased from existence retroactively by Paradigm encounters. Only record they existed. Lists include names, relationships, roles, all preserved because someone needs remembering they were real before reality decided otherwise.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--That’s the most existentially terrifying thing about Paradigm Anomalies. Not the reality distortions or impossible geometries. The fact that they can retroactively unmake you, and only bureaucratic database prevents complete erasure from history. Your family won’t remember you. Your friends won’t remember you. Only corporate records maintain evidence you ever existed.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Suddenly worried whether I’m in that database. Whether I’m actually 368 years old or whether that’s false memory implanted by reality error. Whether Valandor actually existed or whether I’ve been retroactively edited into believing in sky island that never fell because it never was.
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Luna. You’re spiraling.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--I’m DOCUMENTING existential horror wearing scientific classification! Completely appropriate response to entities that make reality optional!
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Deep breath. Fyrie?
--FYRIE//♪--gentle grounding progression in C major, stable and present
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--…Thanks, Fyrie. Okay. Better. Moving on from existential dread to… actually, I think we’re done with Races section. Covered everyone who exists in this corporate nightmare plus entities making existence itself questionable.
--H.YANAGI//Edit--Comprehensive species documentation complete. Well done, Miss Wintershade.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--Did I stay mostly on track this time?
--H.YANAGI//Edit--You shared deeply personal information, spiraled into existential crisis about Paradigm Anomalies, and made our legal team anxious about D-Int comments. But the documentation itself is thorough and informative.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--So… success?
--H.YANAGI//Edit--By your standards, yes.
--L.WINTERSHADE//Response--I’ll take it!
